My Little Ballerinas

"In a dancer, there is a reverence for such forgotten things as the miracle of the small beautiful bones and their delicate strength." ~ Martha Graham

My little ballerinas made me so proud this year! Mary Ashley has developed into such a graceful little fairy. Watching her float across the stage brings a tear to my eye!

The girls have always been in class together, but this year Mary Ashley moved up to a class of older girls. She has grown so much, and Emma has become more independent as well.

My dainty girl.

Older brother Carson was so impressed with Mary Ashley's performance that after the show he observed that Mary might be a real ballerina one day. I passed on the compliment, thinking she would be pleased to hear her brother's praise, but her countenance darkened as she said, "But I am already a real ballerina!"

If Mary Ashley is a real ballerina, then Emma is a real cutie pie. Here she is in the opening number, a parade through the audience.

Emma's class performed "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid.

The girls looked like little dolls onstage.

The older girls did more songs than Emma's group. Mary Ashley's favorite number was "Dynamite."

A sassy tap number.

We did it!

Joe is recovering from surgery, so he allowed his father to present the girls their flowers at the end of the show. Mary Ashley is pleased to receive congratulations from Pop.

And Emma offers a bashful smile in return for a hug. I am so proud of my sweet girls and appreciative of their opportunity to develop poise and grace in ballet class with Miss Gigi.

"To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful." ~ Agnes De Mille
