Shopping Fairhope, Alabama

We couldn't visit The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Ala., without venturing to nearby Fairhope. On our anniversary trip last month, Joe indulged me with a few hours to explore the downtown before we headed home.

It was love at first site! Fairhope is known for its charming homes, artsy shops and trendy boutiques.

We arrived at lunchtime and saw a number of cute eateries, but I was drawn to The French Quarter Shops.

Inside we found a few shops and a delicious cafe, Panini Pete's.

I peered into nearby boutiques while we waited for our food, then enjoyed a delicious lunch in the courtyard. After our trip I noticed an Alabama tourism ad in a magazine, and it suggested one of the must-eat dishes for our state was a panini from Panini Pete's. Check!

Joe lingered in the courtyard after lunch while Emma and I checked out the downtown shopping.

Emma was eager to go in every shop. Here are a few that caught our eye.

I like to look for Christmas ornaments to commemorate our travels. It is so much fun to reminisce about the places we have visited each year when we decorate the tree.

I told Emma that I would get her a little something to remember our trip, and my silly girl asked if she could take home the lady in the photo above.

Now that's more like it. Goodies from the American Doll Store were perfect for Emma, and we found toy-store treats for Carson, Christian and Mary Ashley.

I hope you have enjoyed our travels to Point Clear and Fairhope -- two sparkling gems on the Alabama Coast.
