Emma's Dreamy Slumber Party Invitation

I am so very excited to share Emma's recent slumber party with you this week! It was a lovely celebration start to finish, and we are still having sweet dreams about all the fun we had. Emma has eagerly anticipated turning 6, so she could host her first slumber party. She remembered every detail from Mary Ashley's sleepover two years ago, and she was set on having a bed invitation with a paper doll just like her big sister.

I made the little bed with a 5x7-inch folded card. First I applied fusible web to wrong side of green checked fabric and used pinking sheers to cut out a rectangle of fabric. Ironed to the front of the card, the checked fabric serves as the fitted sheet. Next, I cut pieces of pink chenille large enough to wrap around to the back of the card and set the "coverlets" aside. I sewed a decorative edge along a long strip of fabric and trimmed the excess fabric from the scallops. Then I cut the long strip of fabric into sections about 6 inches long. I wanted a pleasing representation of the pattern on the front of each card, so I kept this in mind as I cut. To make the fabric strips look like a flat sheet folded over the edge of the coverlet, I pressed a crease along the raw edge of fabric. Then I ran a bead of hot glue along the raw edge of the wrong side of the fabric and glued it to the underside of the coverlet. Next, I wrapped the coverlet and flat sheet around to the back of the card and secured it with hot glue. I hot glued a piece of scrapbook paper to the back of the card to cover the raw fabric edges. Then I cut down a card to make the pillow. I monogrammed fabric with Emma's initials and attached the sham to the front of the pillow with fusible web. Then I printed party details on card stock and glued this information to the inside of the card with a glue stick. Finally, I hot glued the pillow to the top of the card. And look at that -- I made my bed!

Emma's Having a Slumber Party
And We're Dreaming You'll Come!

A custom paper doll from Etsy artist extraordinaire Sandy Ford Designs was the perfect finishing touch to turn this invitation into a special keepsake and play set. I simply e-mailed Sandy a favorite photo of the Birthday Girl, and Sandy sent back this beautiful likeness of Emma and a whole wardrobe of beautiful clothes and costumes. I included a paper doll and pair of pajamas with each invitation with a note urging, "Help Emma get dressed for the party!" Since we have the digital files for everything Sandy sent, we can print as many copies of Emma's doll and clothes as we need. Could this be any more adorable? Sandy is one of my favorite Etsy finds!

The invitations went over well with Emma and her friends. In fact, one friend's mom said her daughter even slept with her invitation! (Folded cards and scrapbook paper, Hobby Lobby; green check, pink check and pink polka dot fabrics, Beth's Heirloom Sewing, Wetumpka, Ala.; ribbon trims, Beth's; chenille fabric, scraps from my fabric stash; Rose Trellis fabric, Tanya Whelan Sugar Hill from Quilt Home.)

Rest up, friends, and drop by each day this week for more dreamy details of Emma's first slumber party!
