Barbie Doll Cake

I made this Barbie doll cake over the weekend for the daughter of a friend.

The bodice of her dress was piped using a star tip. Tiny ruffles, leaves and  candy beads added the delicate embellishment. (And our 100 degree Alabama heat made this an off-the-shoulder dress. Let's just say that taking the cake outside for photos made a few alterations necessary.)

I covered the skirt in varying sizes of roses, piped easily with a large star tip. Little ruffles peeked out from the hem of the dress; leaves and candy beads added the final details.

Here she is, all dressed for the party and ready to make a little girl smile.

"Believing hear, what you deserve to hear:
Your birthday as my own to me is dear...
But yours gives most; for mine did only lend
me to the world; yours gave to me a friend."

Wow what a beautiful cake! It's that we live in the Netherlands, but otherwise i had asked you to make one for my daughters! I make cakes with fondant, but with piping looks to difficult, so i don't dare to try...

Love, Rosalie

That kind of skirt is incredibly popular today in wedding dresses. Wonder if we could make it out of fabric, too?
Beautiful! (even with the heat's alterations)

This is so pretty! What a labor of love! I remember my own 2 girls having Barbie cakes for their birthdays and enjoying them so much. I know your friend and her daughter were both thrilled!

Her dress is lovely! What a good job you did! I remember making several Barbie cakes and my hands hurt from all the squeezing the little stars. Barbie has an elegant look today. Your cake stand frames her perfectly. I know the birthday girl was thrilled.

My dad made Barbie cakes for my birthday when I was little and 18-wheeler cakes for my brothers. They were awesome and what a show of love for a dad to make them. Thank you for taking me down memory lane.

I was a little disappointed I was expecting step by step direction on how to do it not just someone showing of the one they did just because. But u can find step by step direction on how to make a beautiful barbie cake on a different web site.

Hi there. What decorating tip did you use to make the roses on the skirt of the dress? Was it an open or closed star tip? Wish me luck! My little great niece requested a barbie cake for her birthday, and yours is the prettiest one I have ever seen.
All the best.
