Merry and Bright

"A good snapshot stops a moment from running away." -- Eudora Welty

I am delighted that my talented friend Allison has started her own photography business. Allison has a great eye and the perfect personality to bring out the best in her subjects. She photographed the children recently for our Christmas cards and did an amazing job. Here are a few favorite images from the day, published with permission of Allison Hilyer Photography.

Aren't these photos enough to make a mother weep? And these images did not even make the Christmas card. As for the two photos I have chosen, I am keeping them under wraps and will share them Christmas Day.

This last photo is featured in a contest on the Allison Hilyer Photography facebook page. If you would like to lend your support, please "like" Allison Hilyer Photography on facebook and "like" our photo in the Contest album.

Melissa, please let me know where you got the red shoes Mary Ashley is wearing...Taylor has the white keds but we have looked for the other styles similar to the ones Emma and Mary Ashley are wearing but can't seem to find them.

Hugs!
Judy

Precious photographs! I love the ones with the children juggling horse apples. I was so disappointed not to be able to gather any this year. Of course, you already know I adore the girls' smocked outfits. Thank you so much for sharing the joy!

And, can't imagine how you narrowed it down to the perfect Christmas Picture! They all are beautiful.

Did you make the girls outfit. I love the ruffle pants legs. I would like to know what the pattern is if you did do it. And, is it simple to make for a novice sewer? (If not I have a sewing mom!)

Thank you, everyone for the kind comments. Several of you asked about the girls' outfits. I did not make them; I found them this year at our holiday market.

Carmen, I have made ruffled pants before, and they are fine for novice sewers. Ruffles just add extra time to a project. I like a generous ruffle, so often make my ruffle deeper than the pattern suggests.

Judy, Mary Ashley's shoes are from last year's fall collection at Gymboree. After these photos were taken we looked for more red shoes and could not find this style. I took a big step (for me, anyway) in getting the girls glittery red ballet flats. I found Mary Ashley's at Children's Place and Emma's at Target. The girls were so delighted with them it was worth it to go sparkly.

The photography is exquisite. It shows personality that it lacking in so many pictures of the precious little ones. And, it shows that they are getting older. The baby is going from Emma's face and I'll miss it, just as I grieved when my precious Darien lost her baby 'ness'. But, each phase of their lives is as wonderful as the previous so the grieving doesn't last long.
Holiday Blessing...

What great pictures -- I just had a photographer work with my four grandgirls -- hope they turn out even half as good as these. Your children could charm the sox off Santa!

Beautiful photographs...I love how chidren are able to loosen up and act naturally in photos. We adults have a harder time of that. :)

Beautiful photos!! I have to ask what line the girls' outfits are from - they look JUST like a Santa bishop dress I just bought for Maggie (it's my facebook profile pic right now). I ordered Mag's dress online from Smockadot Kids ... just wondering if that's where Mary Ashley's and Emma's outfits were from as well. Merry Christmas! Can't wait to see the "winning" card photos!

Hello Melissa, I love your blog, It's Fabulous. I have a quick question for you. I know by reading your blog, that you sew. Did you smock, and or make your daughters Christmas outfits? If so, I'd love to know where you purchased your patterns. Iv'e always smocked my childrens clothes as well, and the cute bell bottom pants are a new touch. Thanks for sharing your life with myself as well as others. I'm leaving you my email in hopes that you repond back. Thanks again, Raquel English
