I made this wedding cake for an upcoming bridal shower. It was easy to assemble, and I think it's a lovely way to present a gift of towels. I rolled two bath towels for the bottom tier, two hand towels for the middle tier, and a single wash cloth for the top tier. Blue satin ribbons keep the towels tightly wound and decorate each layer. A wooden dowel rod pushed through the center of the tiers keeps the cake stable, and silk roses tucked into the top layer add the finishing touch. The completed wedding cake sits atop a cake plate made by gluing a clear glass platter and bowl together with E-6000.
This wedding cake must look pretty good; 4-year-old Mary Ashley has asked me several times when we are going to eat it.

This is such a great idea!
Gosh you make everything so beautiful!!
I love it! I have never seen a wedding cake before, only diaper cakes. What a cute idea!
Beautiful! I loved Mary Ashley's comment, too!
Gorgeous! I wouldn't expect any less... you are sooooo good at that stuff...
Really great idea, Melissa. I am hoping someone I know will get married soon so I can make one! :) Thanks for sharing.

Okay - it's beautiful - but which one - bride or groom is not getting a wash cloth? Just kidding...great idea and the couple get a cake plate to boot! What a great way to pretty it up girl. I wish I had 1/10th of your talent.

Ha! Ha! Jennifer, I have a second wash cloth that I rolled up and tied with ribbon to look like roses, but it was difficult to see the effect in the photos. I will have to remember to include it with the gift, though! I would hate to cause the newlyweds' first argument over who got the only wash cloth. :)
LOL! Too funny about the washcloth tug-o-war!
Melissa, this is so clever, and I particularly like the pale blue sattin ribbon with the precious edging. You have got presentation down to a science!
I might borrow this idea for my best friend's daughter, and I will give you full credit. I have to go to a linen shower in February, and blue is the color of the bridesmaids' dresses. :-)
Thanks for sharing. Coming here makes my day brighter.

Oops! I noticed that I spelled satin incorrectly in the above post. Sorry. Guess my glasses need to be adjusted. ;-)
I've gotta say, it looks better than any cake I've ever made! Reallly cute.
So much prettier than the diaper cake :)!
