One More Round of Cupcakes

I'm squeezing in a few more cupcakes before the year ends, this time entered into a Martha Stewart online contest. Click here to view my niece Caitlin's recent cupcake party. I entered her birthday outfit, favors and decor in the machine embroidery category. The contest ends tomorrow, so please have a look at my entry. I'll let you know if anything comes of this, and in the meantime I'll be thinking of more sweet treats to share in the New Year!

I absolutely love your blog. I have two girls and would love to do some special things for them like you do for your children.

How did you learn to decorate cakes and cupcakes so well? Did you teach yourself or take a Wilton class?

Also, what kind of embroidery machine do you use for your designs? I am just getting started in some of these areas and would really appreciate some input.

Melissa, you HAVE to win. Caitlyn's party was absolutely TDF. One day, in all your spare time~laugh~you MUST post a tutorial on how to do the the ruffle icing on the cupcakes! Please let us know when you win the contest--we are rooting for you!!!

Also, I too do a lot of machine embroidery for my girls--what is your favorite place to get designs?! I am always looking for new sources.

Thanks so much for all your kind words of encouragement! I appreciate your vote of confidence! As for the questions on cake decorating and embroidery, I took the Wilton series of cake decorating classes as a newlywed and learned so much. I would still like to go back someday to learn how to use gum paste and fondant. I made the ruffled cupcakes using an angled tip used for making roses. I will plan to post a how-to sometime soon! As for embroidery, I use the Babylock Ellure. It is the low-end Babylock machine, but I love it! I have found lots of embroidery designs on E-bay, and one of the favorite sellers I discovered there is Bunnycup Embroidery. They offer some really good specials throughout the year, so it is definitely worth it to join their mailing list. Bunnycup designed the cupcakes I used for Caitlin's party. I hope these tidbits of information help!
